Heritage Counts 2004

Chester Amphitheatre Project is a joint intiative between English Heritage and Chester City Council where university students and local volunteers investigated the historic Roman site. Over 35,000 people viewed the excavations from a raised walkway.

Heritage Counts 2004

Heritage Counts 2004 – reveals the principal trends facing the historic environment in England. It also features special reports on:

  • The impact of ten years of lottery funding of Heritage, through the Heritage Lottery Fund
  • The total number of listed buildings that are ‘at risk’ across the country, whether through neglect, wilful damage or decay
  • The economic benefits that caring for heritage can bring, as shown by a study of the economic impact of the 42 Anglican cathedrals in England
  • The threats faced by our historic cemetery landscapes
